Tools to Hold Yourself Accountable When No One's Watching
Option A is no longer available. Therefore, we have to make Option B work.
If we are ever going to live up to our full potential, we need to learn how to become our best selves when no one is looking.
In the past week, multiple athletes told me, “I have yet to do a single workout.” I get it. I would rather be in the studio with all of you than in my living room, with one eye on the computer screen and the other watching my two-year-old daughter, Mak.
But the first scenario (going to the studio) is not an option. Therefore, we have to make option B work.
The situation we’re in with COVID-19 is not a staycation. We do not have a finite date where we’ll all pack up and return to our “normal” office, routine, and gym. For the foreseeable future, this is now our normal. And even though it’s not our first choice (our option A), we have to find a way to make it work.
How to Hold Yourself Accountable: Make Option B Work
At Cut Seven, our ethos is that hard shit can’t be done alone. Usually, this means cheers and high-fives in the studio. Now, we have to create that same level of team accountability and camaraderie in a virtual environment.
Think about it: We don’t have to physically watch a tear-jerking movie together to share the experience. We can watch separately, then come together to discuss over wine and tears. You can do the same with your workouts.
Here’s my suggestion: Get a virtual workout buddy. Ask a friend to do a live workout with you. Using the chat function, type a callout “Heyyyyoo Judy!” at the beginning and end of the workout. Afterwards, connect with your teammates over Zoom and talk about the experience.
